About ME

My unrelenting pursuit of happiness has seen me donning various hats through my career, from starting out as a Computer Science engineer with a Masters in IT Project Management & Entrepreneurship at the CEU Business School, Budapest, Hungary, to where I am today…an internationally published Nature and Wildlife photographer, a certified Fine Art printmaker, a Wildlife Expedition leader and an aspiring Wildlife filmmaker.

I am Ismail Shariff, and I was born and brought up in the city of Hyderabad known as much for its Tahzeeb & Tameez as it is for its Biryani & Haleem. An alumnus of The Hyderabad Public School, Begumpet, I’m an entirely self-taught and self-made individual with a sincere passion for all things photographic. My ideology towards photography is to make uncommon images from the simplest of subjects.

Photography as it began for me, was about traveling and documenting the places I visited whilst studying in Hungary. Being able to photograph sunrises and sunsets was my definition of happiness at that time. I saw my first Tiger in the jungles of central India, and right there, I found my calling for the wild. It was the start of numerous wildlife safaris, and regular trips to India from Paris, where I was working then, to visit the jungles across India. My first exposure to fine art printing was in Paris, where I got a few 4x6inch prints done at a print shop near the Louvre. It was a fairly expensive affair, and I didn’t think I’d be printing my pictures any time again soon. However, the gentleman at the print shop took the time to explain to me in great detail, the intricacies of printing photographs and what printing a picture means and why we should get it done, and how I can perhaps start printing my own pictures. Back then; it all seemed too far- fetched to me. Who knew I would take him up on his suggestion a few years down the line? In the meanwhile, I was addicted to photography and my pursuit of the wild cats, and so much so that I moved back to India in 2009 to pursue my passion.

Whilst honing my photography skills I took to expanding my horizons by mentoring photographers on my photo expeditions across India. Along with this I explored other avenues of commercial photography via partnering with photographer friends, covering a bouquet of photography services – weddings, corporate events, portraits, industrial and wildlife of course. What happened next tops it as far as déjà vu moments go, I put into action Fine Art printing as a natural progression of my line of work. My printer friend at the Louvre in Paris may well have seen my future in my eyes 12 years ago…who knows? Printing was growing but the game changer was the photo exhibitions that I curated and printed for. Guests liked the quality of prints on display and my business grew due to a simple word of mouth. During this time, thanks to the growing reach of social media I was able to sell a considerable amount of my own photo prints across Europe, Australia, USA and of course India.
